For the past 5 weeks, I've been taking pottery les For the past 5 weeks, I've been taking pottery lessons, and it has been the most fun I've had in ages. I've learned to use the wheel for the first time, making simple objects like mugs and bowls.

Here are all the before pics, in different stages of creation, from first throws to shaping to glazing. Over the next week, they'll get fired and the final pieces will be revealed!

For anyone interested in pottery, @craftpotterystudio have been simply amazing. The classes have been informative and really supportive, and you come away with quite a few pieces. Here's hoping some of them are good enough to appear in my cookbook!

I'm really excited to share that I've signed with literary agent extraordinare @elise.dillsworth. We'll be working together to make this cookbook a reality. ⁣A big thank you to @don_occ for making the introduction and believing in me.

My cookbook explores how Malaysia's history has shaped its many cuisines. I started writing it before the pandemic, in memory of my mum and to see it starting to come together feels unbelievable. There's still a lot of work to be done, but I'm excited for whatever happens.

Jubilee who? For me and many others, today is the Dragon Boat Festival, a day with numerous interpretations and reasons to celebrate. Whatever the celebration, it always is centred around these rice dumplings, known in Malaysia as bak chang or kueh chang, or in China as zong zi.⁣
⁣
These pyramidal parcels consist of glutinous rice and an assortment of fillings, wrapped in bamboo leaves. Mine were filled with pork and salted egg yolk. In true nyonya tradition, I also tinged half of the rice with blue pea flower tea, giving it an oceanic hue.
⁣
This is only the second time I've made it and by gosh, I do not have the dexterity. But a fun, if not stressful, way to spend the long weekend.⁣

As a model, not an artist, I should say! This photograph is now hanging in @streetlevelphotoworks as part of this year's open exhibition featuring Scottish-based photographers. It was created by the extremely talented @philipjgibson. Please go and see the show, open until August.⁣
