I’m a proud runner up to the Yan Kit So Award!
For the past couple of years, I have been writing a cookbook about Malaysia’s many cuisines. The cookbook tells the story of Malaysia’s history and culture through food. In the pursuit of getting this book published, I came across the Yan Kit So Award by the Oxford Cultural Collective. The award offers the winner a bursary to undertake a research trip to Asia with the intent of writing a cookbook. It was an award that totally aligned with my dreams!
I applied, held my breath and…I came runner up! While I didn’t win, I am feeling very validated at having my cookbook proposal read, acknowledged and appreciated by people in the food industry that I respect and admire. And for that, I feel more motivated than ever to continue the writing process and get this thing published, one way or another!
Next year, I am hoping to self-fund a trip to Malaysia to do some research, take photos, eat and visit family. Can’t wait to share more with you in the future!
